My coop has been doing facade renovations for what seems like forever. I had emailed about a little leak in May and followed up with another email about the roof in September. My coop has been doing facade renovations for what seems like forever. I had emailed about a little leak in May and followed up with another email about the roof in September. They clearly didn't address it. Fast Forward to October. They started working on the roof. Well, the contractors they hired were negligent in protecting the roof and during the rainstorm this past weekend water leaked into several apartments, mine included. My question: 1. Do I file with insurance right away or try to get the contractor to pay directly. 2. Is there a time limit I can file? The tricky part: I'm weeks away from starting demo on the unit (approval took forever). So, the damage, while annoying, is in a unit that i'm gutting anyway. I still feel that they should be paying something for the damage even though I am gutting it. Bright side, at least this happened pre-renovation. I [less]
