Discussion about
After a few years of planning to replace our windows, the window committee moved to the proposal/pricing stage of the process. They are requesting quotes for casement windows. We currently have double hung window and window ACs. Would you recommend casement windows for co-ops without central air?

I would love thru wall AC but breaching the walls is against the bylaws and its nothing something they are planning.

Casements look beautiful but are not good with window ACs. Why are they choosing casement rather than double-hung if double-hung is standard in the building? Are they trying to bring back the original character--were original windows casements?

Keep in mind that if you are in a landmark zone you will need approval for casement windows (even if they are historically correct) since your current facade has double-hung.

The Vendôme, built c. 1930, has casement windows with panels for the A/Cs.

Triple-paned with smart glass is your answer. It's not cheap or easy to find or install, but it will be magical.

I've mentioned smart glass in other posts but I don't think I've expounded upon it. If you've gone to the Washington Monument in DC, their elevator has it. It has a gas that makes it opaque (usually with no power) and then clear when the power is switched on.

This means no need for blinds/shades or pebbly textured glass in the bathroom, but this is actually meant for the whole house. And, no, I don't sell it - but I think it's high time to use it in high value apts. Triple paned for reduced noise.
