Discussion about 31 East 21st Street #4A
My experience living here and feedback to the management upon move-out: Internal 1. Wooden floor throughout the apt is extremely uneven, and near window has significant cracks, big splits. My experience living here and feedback to the management upon move-out: Internal 1. Wooden floor throughout the apt is extremely uneven, and near window has significant cracks, big splits. Feels like you're walking on the moon. It's so bad that upon moving in I had to prop up all my furniture to stay remotely even. Having been in a skewed position for a year might actually have caused long term damage to my furniture. 2. Lack of ventilation. The only seemingly "ventilation shaft" is in the bathroom. This however does not do anything. It's merely a modern ventilation roster, that, when screwed off was covering a really old ventilation roster + shaft, that was completely blocked by 1. a piece of cardboard, 2. thick grime covering the whole roster. In conclusion, it serves no real ventilation function. In fact, this way, prospective tenants are misled to think that there is actual ventilation inside the bathroom, like I was. Furthermore, it goes without saying that mold and smells are easily created within the apt. 3. Apartment, and whole building for that matter have subtle funky smell. Most likely caused by the fact that there's 0 ventilation, trash builds up in trash rooms, and there effectively being a Thai restaurant in the building (building shares basement with the restaurant). 4. Walls are extremely thin. They're a joke. I could hear my neighbor talking, snoring in her sleep, and their alarm clock would also wake me up long before I had to get up. 5. Heating. I met several tenants last winter that were asking if my heat was on, at all. The fact was that my heating was barely on, and the apt was very cold. The Super, at the time, told me that's the way it is. I (and I'm sure others) contacted 311, after which it suddenly turned on. Older tenants told me this has happened before. Seems like management likes to play these games. 6. Kitchen is in reasonable state. Old appliances and very little closet space. 7. Poor garbage collection since first Super left. The garbage rooms are often so stacked up with trash nowadays, that it's almost overflowing. 8. Not a lot of closet space in this apartment. Unlike the post claims. External 1. Facing 21st there is an immense amount of noise from traffic. In particular literally dozens of (trash) trucks are roaming throughout evening and night, some standing in front of the building for minutes to 10s minutes in the middle of the night/morning. Extremely frustrating and aggravating. Especially is you have a stressful job and really need solid sleep. Light sleepers cannot properly live in this apt without solid earplugs. [less]
