Discussion about
The goal is to create a triplex -- add a stairway on existing floor, add a (roughly 10' height) 1000 sf of interior space, and add a (roughly 1000 sf) roof deck on top of that. Assume medium-high-end finishes. I have some ideas but I'd love to talk to people who have BTDT. Thanks in advance ali r. {upstairs realty}
Dean should definitely chime in here.
Lol....not sure if happy to be known on StreetEasy about duplexing an apartment....or not :)
Hi @Front_porch happy to help answer some questions as we duplexed our apartment (but we went 'down' and took over half of the 3rd floor in 2012) as well as doing a gut renovation of the entire 4th floor here at 135 Henry St Brooklyn Heights in 2008.
Photos are available here - http://bitly.com/135henry
We used Scott Schnall as the architect (no longer working) and Edgar Espinosa 646-932-0515 as the contractor (and highly recommend Edgar/intend to use him again on my next project)
We also replaced our deck last year with iron frame/porcelain tile (used Adam Seim abseim@gmail.com to do this project and highly recommend his design solution/materials - took me forever to find someone who could do this project).
What do you want to know?
I do know that one of the architects we spoke with but didn't go with due to costs did a "build up" renovation that can be found at https://www.wilkinsonarchitects.com/andrew-wilkinson did a "new level" duplexing of his own apartment in Brooklyn so might be worth checking out on his blog posts.
BTW I should have mentioned before.......we are thinking of moving next year (well at least testing the waters at $2.5m)
