Discussion about
The apartment has bed bugs. We were told they were taken care of after the previous renters had a problem. Within 3 months of moving in we were getting bitten and finding bugs. The building had it treated, but the bugs came back a month later. They had it treated again, but the apartment still tested positive for bugs a month after. Clearly the building has an infestation. We were more than cooperative, but the management wouldn't let us break the lease until the bed bugs came back for the 3rd time. We spent thousands of dollars on dry cleaning and laundry which they would not reimburse. They kept our security deposit and charged us 2 months rent even though we weren't living there. During this whole process I was treated horrifically by management. They were rude and vicious.

In my experience most if not all landlords in NYC have very little care about being responsive and friendly in dealings with tenants. There's just too much demand in NYC - one tenant moves out , and another moves in...

That's terrible. If it were me I would sue for the security deposit, rent they took, and costs you incurred.

As I have said in other threads on this topic you should contact the AG's office. They're very good about helping tenants with disputes over security deposits, etc.
