Discussion about
I've done my research and know that for most searches it's usually a 30 day or so ahead for finding a place. If I'm looking to rent and have reasonable requirements and budget (see below), is there any way to lock in an apartment earlier, say in January or February? Looking for: Cost: $2800 or under Studio-1BR with 450ft+ for 2 people In: East Village, West Village, Brooklyn Heights, Boerum Hill, Cobble Hill Dishwasher and Laundry in Building

Landlords will not know what is available for May in January or February so looking then makes no sense.
You need to look come April.

Occasionally some of the larger landlords or new construction are renting that far in advance (for example Stuyvesant Town, but $2,800 is slightly on the low side for that). OTOH new construction renting that far in advance could also end up not being ready on the move-in date.

Thanks for confirming! just figured I'd check, holy hell the rental market in NYC is messed up. They really could know sooner what is available if they just made the deadlines for resigning sooner, plenty of other places do that. Heck, in Boston you sign in January for a September lease, though Boston has the problem going the other way.
