Fireproofing question

What is the correct process to fireproof a vertical steel column that is in the middle of a kitchen counter. Intumescent paint vs Sheetrock? Can a regular contractor apply or do you need someone certified?

A regular contractor can install either choice. I happen to like the paint but ut us commercial looking. If using sheetrock it is not as easy as just installing sheetrock. You can email me at jeff@primerenovationsnyc.com and I will email the drawing detail so you can make sure its done correctly
