Discussion about
Somehow I managed to gouge a chunk out for the painted finish on one of my custom kitchen cabinet doors. The paint has come off and the wood is exposed in an area about half the size of a dime, with a few adjacent and more superficial scratches. This is right on the edge of the door. The cabinets are an off-white color (BM Swiss Coffee and are about 20 months old, so it is likely that the color has changed over time. Although small, the mark is quite noticeable. Help! Does anyone have any advice as to how best to go about repairing it? Thanks.
I am guessing your cabinets are spray painted (shop painted). Any decent painter can do the touch up with a small brush and some putty to fill gaps with sanding with a high grit sandpaper between coats. However, you will notice the difference in the finish. Or you can just order a new door from where ever you got your cabinets. It still would not be a perfect match due to paint color fading over time. If it were to be me, I would go the paint touch up route (should take some one less than a couple of hours due to waiting for drying in between coats) and if I did not like the outcome order a new door.
Agree - would try the touch up route first. BM paint inside a dwelling isn't going to fade much in 2 years... Any good painter could fill the imperfections and paint that to the point where you'll have to look hard to see it.
Kaarrll,
You should send the door to the Millshop that made your custom cabinets. They should be able to repair the door and respray it. It will look different at first but over time it will become the same
I found custom cabinets that are easy to install in the kitchen but yes, I love to make self-made DIY kitchen cabinets.
