Keep old molding or replace with modern?

I am redoing a floor in my bedroom and was going to put new base molding. Apartment is pre-war so moldings are pretty fancy. The style in my bedroom will be modern and I was thinking of updating the baseboard as well. It won't match the rest of the apartment (which I will eventually redo as well). Is there value in preserving old style molding?
