He also refuses to fix anything in the apartment, even when the lease says it's his responsibility. He also told us he was raising our rent a certain amount—then at the last minute increased that by 50%, when it was too late for us to find another place to live. The noise in the building is also terrible: You can hear the landlord's dogs and your neighbors' conversations through the heat vents (no heat comes through them, but sound does!), there is tons of street noise, and in nice weather it's even louder behind the building, where there are lots of courtyards, balconies, and rooftops filled with people until late at night.
