Discussion about The Paladin at 300 East 62nd Street in Lenox Hill
Sad that they restrict the weight of dogs, most likely because they are trying to exclude certain breeds. I don't find it anymore acceptable than restricting people themselves.
And yet people are highly restricted too. Starting with their income and net worth.
No matter how compassionate you are about animals, and dogs in particular, in most states they are considered property. My coop used to ban pit bulls and pressa canarios outright, but they have changed the rules to state that any dog of any breed can be banned if it creates a hazardous condition and/or attacks a resident or a resident's animal -- and that includes chihuahuas and schitzus (sp??) as well. So it's not the size, but the problem it creates.
Dogs are not people regardless of your feelings.
Any vegans care to way in on this?
Agree with Stache - dogs are not people, but I feel compelled to add that I like them more and find their company superior to that if people. With that said, I understand the restrictions. I lived down the street from the mauling that Kimberly Guilfoyle prosecuted back in the day in SF. That incident was sufficient to sway even the most ardent of dog lovers.
Right. They are property just like your sofa or your air conditioner. I too remember the girl mauled, killed and torn apart by two presa canarios in San Francisco: her name was Diane Whipple, a lovely woman who fought valliantlly for many gay rights issues. That changed everyone's minds about vicious animals and the debate about breeds. The owners died in prison because they knew in advance of the attack that their animals were dangerous and did nothing to stop the attack once it started. They just stood there, watched and laughed at the woman. HIDEOUS. I would love to see dogs banned in my coop, but I don't think that could be done. The little ones are yappy and the big ones are scary.
There are lots of breeds developed over the past many years that are small and suitable for apartments that are not the yappy ankle biters preferred by the UES bluehairs.
The underlying problem as I see it is people putting so much emotional investment in animals while at the same time disengaging from human contact.
@stache - I plead guilty!
I'm not judging but think about it.
Gordon Gekko : That's the one thing you have to remember about WASPs: they love animals and hate people.
very funny
One of the great quotes from that movie.
