Landlord not renewing lease due to renovations

My landlord isn't renewing leases because they're planning on renovating the building. My question is, can they really do that right now? It seems like a really asshole thing to do. My lease is up at the end of August but I really don't want to move in the middle of a pandemic. Is there any organization I can call to help with this? What can I do to try and stop it?

If you have a market rate lease, you have basically no right to a renewal. If it's rent stabilized, totally different story. Read your lease - what says it?

sb, You have a long time before August and you will be able to see the apartments in June and July.
