This takes the cake. Signed apartment lease at beginning of pandemic. Get keys and leave town for 3 months. Come to apartment with my furniture and find that the super has moved into the apartment. The apartment that I have been paying rent on for 3 months. WTF?!? What are my options? I want out and my money back. SMH
Document everything. Take pictures.
Wow. Just wow. Please update us as you get this sorted out.
Absolutely nuts!
Reminds me of my first apartment in NYC..
Lived there a few years, and then moved out a month before lease ended, though still had some furniture there.
For 2 nights I had a couple friends staying there for my wedding since I was in my new apartment and they’d save money on having to get a hotel (pre airbnb days).
They came back one night and texted me that it seemed like someone had been in there.
Sure enough a few days later looking through their digital camera photos and realized someone had taken a bunch of photos of the apartment with their camera while they were gone. Didn’t take anything at least, but bizarre.
Assumed it was the super or broker.
Weird shit happens in empty NYC apartments.
By the way I know a guy in local TV news -- if you're interested, shoot me an email with your contact details and some more info. I can be reached at myjunkzone @ gmail.com
I'm pretty sure the super of my old building used the washer/dryer when I was away, since I discovered bright red lint that I'd never have. I'm thinking about getting a simple/cheap home security camera from someone like Kangaroo that alerts whenever the front door opens and turns on a camera.
