Discussion about
Planning to renovate a 1 bed. The apartment still has the old fuse box. Is it necessary to upgrade to a breaker panel? I don't have plan to increase the electrical demands. The cost of filing permit could be high so just want to see whether it's necessary to do so (other than for convenience purpose). Thanks.

I think it's worth it just for the resale value.

If it is older than 30 years, better to do electric upgrade.

If you add any lighting, upgrade outlets for computer stuff, change appliances, etc. etc. you might be surprised at how much electrical load is added, and if there are still fuse boxes in the apartment that suggests quite old and probably not up to today’s requirements

Agree that it's worth doing, but you may be limited in overall capacity by the size of the wiring coming into the unit. Changing that out can be very expensive.

Possibly check with the superintendent who would probably know what’s been done in other apartments in the building.
