The Hamptons suck during winter. At best it's cold and dark and you can huddle in your mansion against the even colder sea breeze.

I don't see the appeal of living in a country-club town. If the socialites who never deign to interact with normal people (except as culture-for-hire) relocate permanently, I will not miss them.

Sounds delightfully like a Daphne du Maurier novel.

Socialites? This guy sounds like an idiot poser:
“It’s a first for us, but the Hamptons is where the action is at,” he said. “It seems like everyone we know is going to be there, especially for Thanksgiving but even for Christmas.”

Personally, I've always loved the beach in the fall and winter. But that said I surf through the winter, nothing like getting out of that cold water/air into a warm house with a fire going. I've always avoided the 'scene' out there, not my cuppa tea...

I've been surfing since 1974! I started surfing the winters of jersey/long Island when I was around 13. Surf/ski... That's my happy place...

A bit more nuts when I was younger... But to this day people look at you a little funny when you tell them you grew up surfing in New Jersey. In the seventies it was certainly a lot more obscure of a sport, but to some extent so was alpine skiing.
I've surfed with a couple of guys in this video. The winter produces pretty big swells in Florida as well.
