If you're looking at living in this apartment, then there are a few things that you are likely to value highly. Namely, they are location, low $/sq. ft., and perhaps the storage space (or perhaps sleeping area) up in the loft. If you're looking at living in this apartment, then there are a few things that you are likely to value highly. Namely, they are location, low $/sq. ft., and perhaps the storage space (or perhaps sleeping area) up in the loft. I'm happy to say, having lived here for 2.5 years, that those are clearly the three best parts of the apartment.
As long as I'm here, I figured I'd give a little color on some of the downsides of the unit:
1) You are the closest unit to a fire station, so it is not uncommon that the comings and goings of the station can be jarring
2) Temperature control in the unit is difficult. There are three wall units that should be good at regulating, however I have found it difficult to keep the apartment at the temperature level that you would want
3) The kitchen and the bathroom are old (see low $/sq. ft) which can be a little bit annoying if you care about those things. The kitchen looks big, but given that we have used it a lot in the pandemic, it's actually quite small. There's just not that much storage space in it.
4) Not a ton of natural light comes into the main area or bedroom, especially in the afternoons.
5) The building is old, so over the course of 2.5 years here we've had a gas outage, laundry issues, interesting smells, and a little bit of a mouse problem. (If you've lived in an old building in NY, none of these things should bother you too much!)
Anyway, Larry (the landlord) and Percy (the super) have been fine to deal with, and I would certainly recommend this apartment to a person who values the three things listed at the top.
Congrats to whomever ends up here next!
