I am renovating a condo in a pre-war apartment building in Chelsea. I want to replace the old cast iron radiators with modern flat wall mounted units. Does anyone have any experience they can share doing this replacement? Thanks.

You can do it but you will have more temperature fluctuations in your apartment even if you get oversized flat wall units as cast iron units hold the heat for longer. Steam cycle is typically 5-20 minutes an hour in NYC steam heat buildings. Cast iron radiators extend this heat cycle.
