Discussion about
I have purchased a 1960 built coop apartment in Forest Hills, and is looking to replace the current light switches into new ones. I have already unscrewed the switch plate to look inside, and I am pretty confident it is simple enough to do it myself. My question is: can I just do it without asking the board/ management? It doesn't involve removing, adding, or changing the wires. I am just taking out the switches, and put the new ones in. Thank you!

Of course you can. Just watch a YouTube video on replacing a switch and don’t forget to turn off the breaker.

Replacing the switches is relatively straightforward. The building maintenance people may also be able to do it for you, for a relatively small fee.
