Discussion about
There always seem to be a few reasonably priced 1BRs in this 1964 era building. Does anyone have feedback or experience with it? Thanks. https://streeteasy.com/building/333-east-66-street-new_york
Appears to be a no surprises building - 'standard' layouts and designs for the period, nothing spectacular, nothing horrifying. A number of the '1 BR' units appear to be divided up studios, and a couple of the '2 BR' units are of dubious legality (does the separated part of 6H's alcove part of the LR really meet the floor space requirements of a bedroom? [And the broker needs to fix the floorplan.])
Buyers may also want to pick up a copy of Pierre Franey's "Cooking in a Small Kitchen". (Good recipes, regardless of your kitchen size)
But, these are the sort of reasonably sized, plainly designed and priced units that are in short supply in NYC. If you don't have your heart set on wall to wall glass, major skyline views, and absurd lists of amenities, this could be the right thing.
Aaron2 Thanks for that information. You're right about the converted studios. Cookie cutter apartments but nothing obnoxious about them. I read a comment elsewhere that the ceilings are low but don't know their height. Thanks for the Pierre Franey tip!
The ceilings are indeed low - you can tell from the doors. But if it's reasonably-priced, hey, why not?
The ceilings are standard 8’ in most 1960-70s vintages. As Aaron says, these building on UES are indeed very good deal if the location works for you even after factoring in facade or any other repair issues (2 fifth avenue being an example of facade repairs).
Btw, most rental buildings are 8' ceilings. If you are looking for value on a tight budget, these buildings can't be beat. And this one seems to be fairly relaxed going by the description when it comes to purchase approvals.
