Discussion about
Working through some proposals for a renovation and a few of the items are a bit higher than I would have anticipated. We currently have 6 can (high hat) fixtures in our dining room and would like to the replace them with one central fixture (drywall - not plaster) Current quote is $3,000 not including drywall repair or the new fixture. Does this sounds average?
Don't worry, the entire project will end up costing twice as much as the estimates and take 3 times as long. But if you're in a hurry you can probably get it done in only twice as long if you're willing to pay 3 times the estimate.
Sejo, It depends on whether the new fixture is being connected to the same circuit as the 120V 6 can fixtures without having its own switch. Since you have can fixtures, I would think there is sufficient space above the drywall to run wiring. If so, it shoud be <$1k as any electrician can do it in less than a day with an assistant.
Continued - $1000 as it will take an electrician a few hours with an assistant and no more than $50 of material.
Thanks 300_mercer - That is actually what I was thinking as well. If it was inclusive of patching, painting, etc. I could see a higher number but this felt really high.
