How do you find buildings that are not pet friendly?
1) Do the house rules require pets to take the service elevator or the stairs, or use an alternative entrance?
2) Are there general deposits levied for animals, or directly charged fees for messes in the lobby, hallways, or elevator?
3) Is it a building that has previously been a 'no pets' building or otherwise tries to limit the kind of animal? (e.g., weight limits for dogs)
4) Does your broker have any knowledge from other deals their company has handled as to pet policies or general board views?
5) When you hand the super a twenty, what do they say?
Here are some ways you can find buildings that are not pet-friendly:
1. Check property listings for "no pets allowed" or "pets not allowed" statements.
2. Contact property management or landlords directly to inquire about pet policies.
3. Review building or community rules for any prohibitions on pets.
4. Visit the property in person to look for signs or notices regarding pet policies.
5. Use online resources to filter search results for non-pet-friendly properties.
Consider seeking assistance from a real estate agent specializing in rentals or sales in the area.
