Email notice sufficient as written notice

I am the landlord of a non rent controlled unit and I want to move into the unit and not renew the lease. The unit is not rent controlled or rent stabilized. Is email considered sufficient as “written notice” or it must be via certified Mail? Thanks
For $4.15, why not both?
Because without that monthly rent check coming in each month, he has to save every penny? Or landlord is too lazy to look up what the terms of the lease say constitute 'written notice'.
I'd err on the side of caution and deliver certified notice, but then, I have an extra $5 to throw around.
