Discussion about
At The Caledonia: http://www.thecaledonia.com/floorplans.asp? Right next to the Robert Fulton Houses. I saw the sign so I was curious, started to walk towards there, began to feel very uneasy and turned around. It's the highest crime district in Chelsea, yet: Jr.4/Conv2/2Bathrooms - 2 bath(s) $7,095.00 My fav is the neighborhood description: http://www.thecaledonia.com/neighborhood.html

i agree. that rent is ridiculous, given how crappy the area is. manhattan has way too many housing projects; it needs to destroy them and send those dangerous thugs over to the bronx. i really hope the city gets its act together. we're falling behind other major cities in this regard.

Will never happen.

Just glad I didn't buy in the Caledonia, hoping to rent to cover my costs.

Will never happen.

why are you renting there instead of a building in a better neighborhood?

the demise of NYC is a really sad story in American history. Chicago, Los Angeles, and Boston, are kicking our ass when it comes to urban planning, cleaning up the city, and gentrification.

If you want to be by the hudson and meat packing, it is a fine area. There's also plenty of business at 111 8th, and close to work in the advertising industry.

You can view it as by the projects - certainly it is, but it smack in the middle of the projects in all directions.

There's a negative; there's a positive.

I'm not renting there. I just looked. That is, I came, I saw, I laughed.

"If you want to be by the hudson and meat packing, it is a fine area."

I'd rather live in the Hudson than in that part of town.

You seem have odd tastes.
Which probably means that you rent or own somewhere that was a bargain for you but may have limited resale or re-rental appeal.

Actually no, I both rent and own in prime buildings / areas.

Oh well for you!

Where are these prime Manhattan apartments you own?

and why would you (or anyone) rent and own, unless the rental is just temporary?

lintintin is completely delusional; he's definitely a real estate broker.

fact of the matter is, most of NYC is filled with crappy apartments and projects. contrary to what the media puts out, it's by no means a glamorous city.

Not a real estate broker.

Not that there's anything wrong with being a real estate broker. I've used them, yes.

So now if I want to insult stevejhx and rufus, what am I supposed to call you guys that you'll find insulting?

by the way rufus
if you hate NYC, move

NYC isn't a glamorous city to those who don't take advantage of its glamor. If you sit in a crappy apartment and bitch about your life, you have the right to do that, but you might as well do that elsewhere

tintin, so we established you work at barnes and noble and it is not exactly 8 th avenue.

who do you know who wants to live in the meat packing ?

i live in chelsea and this specific area has needs, it is concerning at night or even in the afternoon walking north up 9th ave from 14th. these blocks are crap, it is common for cars to get broken into.

the building itself sold out to people who were too quick to pull the trigger. the apts themselves are mediocre at best. literally placed on one of the shittest blocks in chelsea (second to loft 25 which seems to be a hit)

if you're not a broker, then you just sound clueless tintin

rufus, You disgusting pig. How dare you insist on moving people who have nowhere elso to go into worse ghettos so they are even more trapped in poverty. You make me sick. Not to mention that the reason the rents are high is because the city is doing this, so if this was to happen, the rents would go up and your sleezy ass would have to move too. Your ignorance and classism sickens me but I am comforted by the fact that you will be stuck in the projects in hell.

koene316,

you need to calm down. you sound like an ultra-liberal obama supporter who doesn't understand issues like economics, gentrification, or crime.

first of all, those projects are dangerous and located in prime real estate. if the city destroyed them and developers put up luxury apartments, rent will go down since there will be more supply in the market. it's simple economics; perhaps you should do a little studying.

second, there are plenty of areas in nyc where these people can live. chicago destroyed cabrini green and sent those people over to the far south side. as a result, the gold coast is experiencing a boom and is now one of the most desirable urban neighborhoods in the entire nation. i think nyc should follow this example if it wants to become a more desirable city.
