Discussion about
Hi , We just signed a lease a couple of weeks back, and we have been having nasty experience with the rental company. Specifically, the leasing office has been over the top nasty, sending out completely unprofessional communication, etc. We are scheduled to move in one week from now, and are having serious second thoughts. What is the feasibility of nullifying the lease (potentially with paying something for keeping unit off the market for a month)? Is this done? Are there legal or other implications? Thanks!
If it's correct to assume the broker is creating a problem for you, this is not unusual. Should the landlords office be acting in a manner that is actionable and offensive, then a negotiation should be capable of letting you out of a lease. That allowance would be made by ownership to prevent any bad publicity or difficulty which there insistance in you're moving in would create and bring about an action against them. Everything is negotiable and u can certainly buy yourself out of the lease, but the amount asked may not be worth it. If you have signed a binding lease, with all the elements of a contract intact, then you are bound to work-it-out. Good luck.
The broker was acting nasty - we let it slide, and she's now out of the picture. It's now the turn of the leasing office to act nasty. We'll see - we have time with them this Friday to work it out. We'd like to stay, but this leasing office is creating such a caustic environment that we are reconsidering ...
