Discussion about
I've been tracking several penthouses in Harlem these past few months. I don't NEED a lot of space, but after 8 years of living in a cramped Midtown apartment I'm intrigued by the possibility of owning a large, spacious 3 bedroom/2bathroom. "Harlem has much more to offer that the FiDi and even Hells Kitchen as far as a community and neighborhood. The question is, will it ever realize its potential."

Having lived in all three, I can say "maybe" for FiDi but TOTALLY wrong for Hells kitchen. Hell's kitchen has a zillion times more restaruants, stores and such than Harlem. It may not have as many long-time residents, if that's what you mean, but I long for when I could go out at any time of the night and get whatever I craved - something impossible in even the nicest parts of harlem without taking a (gypsy) taxi.

As for the blogger - you see drug addicts in plenty of places below 110th. Again, I lived in hell's kirchen post-gentrification for many years and literally saw bums pooping on the sidewalk in front of luxury hi-rise buildings.

Yes, Hell's Kitchen has many more restaurants than Harlem. And I love many of them. But it's only recently become a residential neighborhood. Where are the parks? Harlem is close to Central Park, Riverside, Jackie Robinson and others. That's what I meant.
