In the very back last few advertising pages of every New York Magazine there are always two or three companies offering the service that take out full page ads. One is called 'Transform,' another (I think) is called 'Closette,' etc.

I have used Creative Closets -- they are just as lovely as California closets and half of the price

For 18 years I have universally heard that California Closets costs 2x what Creative Closets costs and I've never heard anyone explain that they thought California Closets is worth the extra money. I have no idea what value added they claim to bring. I had creative closets do 3 closets around 1993 and they held up pretty much like the day they were installed until I moved in 2007.

Thanks all. Creative doesn't do Brooklyn unfortunately so I'll look at New york magazine.

We just had California Closets do three closets in our apartment and are extremely happy. But yes, they are expensive.

if you are able to DIY or have a contractor, easyclosets.com lets you design online - and their manufacturer's the same as California Closets - plus the cost is extremely low. my contractors put mine together and said it was pretty easy to do.

Easycloset is the best and it costs 1/3 of what Cali Closet does including getting a handyman to install. I had Cali Colsets come in, provide a design and give me a quote on a couple of closets. I used their design, plugged it into Easycloset.com and within 2 days had all the parts needed. I ended up doing it myself including getting the closets ready for the install (tear down the exisitng, prime, paint, etc...) which BTW Cali Closets wanted an extra $700 per closet. I took a full day to install three closets and the cost was less the a third - I'm sure you can get a handyman to do it for $500 tops.

California closets are good for the design but they are way too pricey for what they are. Just my $0.02
