Oh, hi, I'm here!

I work for DG Neary because Gil Neary sold me my first apartment (and my second apartment, and my third apartment . . . he's an old-school Chelsea broker and I've lived in NYC twenty years) and I trusted him the way most people don't trust their brokers.

If you want to reach me, you can indeed email me at work (which is where the form links) at ali [at] dgneary [dot] com -- or call me on my cell at 646-322-6150.

Cheers
Ali

hi Ali,

finally read your book and loved it. very funny the part in which you are tidying up somebody else's studio. your book even make me want to work in real estate, but people skills are not my thing. and i bet that patience have to be unlimited at times. anyway, thanks for the book!

While we're on the subject, I'll second admin & agree that Ali's book is awesome. Not only is 'Diary of a Real Estate Rookie' an incredibly entertaining read, but informative, too. I was pleasantly surprised to find advice for NYC renters as well as buyers.

I look forward to reading it, I'll have to get a copy to bring to Costa Rica with me-getting married there in December! Sounds like a fun book to read while in a hammock. I often think about writing a book about my time as a NYC broker-over 15 years. I went from punk rocker to real estate broker...truly I don't know how that happened?

ali...I always enjoy reading your posts...you add a great deal to the site which, unfortunately, turns into a personal attack site at times...You're one of the reasons I keep hanging on. Thank you.

*blushing*

I hope that you all enjoy the book, though I think Burkhardt is going to have the best experience of reading it in Costa Rica!

We really should do a streeteasy meetup, somewhere near sutton123's new place.

AR: I graduated from Harvard summa cum laude, at the top of my class -- and then I couldn't get a job. It took me a year to get hired on Wall Street. That was the beginning of a long love/hate relationship with corporate America.

Ali that sounds like what is happening now... What was the move in real estate then....jikes. At least Black Monday was bounced back from quickly. Also fellow Harvard grad here ('95) holler.

Hmm Rhino86, you do know that fp was at Adams, right?

Haha. No I didn't. I didn't make it until Adams in four years until they started shutting down dining halls after finals but before graduation. That was a freaky place...but I hadn't stepped into Greenwich Village either at that point in my life.

In my day (bones creak) the houses weren't randomized, so they had very strong identities -- Adams very much artsy/cigarette smoking/gay/European, along with a smattering of crew jocks who came because they thought the artsy European girls were cute. Amy Brenneman (totally lovely and very nice) was there, '84 or '85 maybe.

I went back and saw my old room at the 20th reunion, and honestly, after living in NYC for awhile, it still looked pretty good.

I think they had gone to the non-ordered choice of four when I was there....which "randomized" all the jocks in big rooming groups into Currier and Mather. I was in the latter... Which in retrospect was the worst. Ugliest building ever, no excitement of advancing into better and better rooms with seniority.

So, f_p didn't Adams house still have the pool when you were there? I heard stories about the pool "parties". Do you have first hand experience? ;)

I lived in Adams (HC '90) when the pool was still there, and it's all true....

Go Harvard! Anybody go to the game yesterday? It looked cold but we won! By the end of my freshman year they cut the blocking groups down to groups of 8 (from 16) and that split up the enormous jock blocks. It was completely random where you ended up at that point. Leverett's big claim to fame when I was there was... a weight room. But I did get a view of the river for three years & scored a key to the roof of Leverett towers by working for the super. Great view of the fireworks.

I was a little late for the famous acid-dropping pool parties, but I do remember a poetry reading where I actually swam laps while Michael Blumenthal read "Laps." (Adams was very into Art, capital A). Did not go to the game yesterday, but plan on dragging Yalie friends to "Harvard beats Yale, 29-29" while it is still playing at Film Forum.
