All of a sudden there are a number of folks from the Carolinas looking to purchase in New York. What gives?
moving away from hurricanes and high flood insurance rates.
you got to be kidding me. people aren't moving from the south to NY, hah. Did anyone else go to the Livesouth real estate show in Parsippany a couple weekends back- the place was packed. There was a line for 30 minutes just to register to walk through. The tri-state area is definately going south for retirement.
Best place to buy now is Molokai, Hawaii.

nice plug broker. If anyone is truly interested in the Carolinas go to www.SeaBreezeCoastalProperty.com. great deals on land in upscale neighborhoods.
We are seriously thinking about moving from Durham to NYC/Connecticut. We know of a few people in the area who moved recently to NJ and Philly. My wife is origanlly from Rockland County. We have had enough of it down here, and think that NYC would be a great place to retire...if we can afford it though.
I would seriously consider philly. It has one of the lowest housing prices in the Northeast, and is a fantastic area. Plus it is 2 hours from NYC, DC, Baltimore, the ocean and mountains. You really can't go wrong.
Tropical paradise at low prices..... sleeper island, no stop lights!
Molokai, Hawaii
Ferry to Maui 2 times a day, 9 miles away!
.
Philly? yuck...more boring and more dangerous than New York. Hawaii? You got to be kidding.
77 million baby boomers; the most afluent generation yet (for the most part calling the northest home) are heading south in the recent years to come. Yes you will be able to find good deals in the NYC area and northeast in general however all the money is heading south.
The backwoods country living of the south now charges $400,000 for a 3/4 acre homesite (no house- just the dirt)
Study up, follow the market and make some $$$$$$$$!!
Oh, please! Moving to the south is plain crazy given what global warming has already wrought in terms of increasingly hot summers. In some years it will be unbearable!
This board has some serioulsy funny posts...
"Did anyone else go to the Livesouth real estate show in Parsippany a couple weekends back"...of course not...it was in parsippany.
"I would seriously consider philly....You really can’t go wrong." Um...yes you can dude. Philly has the highest poverty rate of any city in the nation...and it totally shows. It also has a completely f%cked tax code that scares business away, is dirty, and unsafe. Any of these points ring a bell. Can't go wrong? I guess you could consider it a burb of NYC now since it is only 90 minutes away by train.
"Study up, follow the market and make some $$$$$$$$!!" Does anyone else feel like they are watching a late night infomercial? I feel like the next thing this guy is going to say is "No credit? BAD credit? NO PROBLEM!!!"
these posts are pretty funny, some stupid but mostly funny. to the global warming guy- you got to be kidding right? Manhattan will flood first before the average temp in Myrtle Beach reaches 90. Oh, and that will be in about 10,000 years from now. That will probably make the 400k homesite above worth around $4 Billion around that time. He's right, invest now.
I agree this is pretty dumb. However, for the record, aside from a couple of people who are thinking about retiring to Florida, I do not know of anyone one who is even remotely thinking about moving south to retire. On the other hand, I get a fair amount of questions from friends and friends of friends who are in the south and midwest who are enamoured with the idea of being able to walk to such places as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center and all the world class museums. Probably most will not retire in New York, but it does seem like some do habor such a thought even if they will never act upon it. On the other hand, no one in New York dreams of retiring in the south...by the way, Parsippany is not New York. What does it say about that town, if folks queue up for 1/2 hour to register for some show no one has ever heard of. That reminds me of the poor sould who are trying to escape North Korea to find freedom and better standard of living in China!
wow you guys ar rough on the poor people in Jersey. They're people too just like you and me looking for a better life- and the concrete jungle may not be it for some.
