Discussion about
This is tangentially related to RE at best, but worth a try: A friend was just telling me he pays his doorman to street-park his car, and to move it based on the alternate street parking rules. He said it works out to $150-200 / month, which is considerably cheaper than $500-$600 garages in his area. I am toying with the idea. Have others done something like this? Is it easy to find a doorman or porter or something who will do this for you? What have people's experiences been like? Thanks in advance.

Depends on how you feel about scuffed up bumpers.

Me? I have one of those handicapped NYC DOT permits. I pull right up to work and park in a no parking 9-9:30 zone right as everyone else pulls away. Being disabled in NYC has so many perks, I think it is worth it. However, I probably get backed into a few times a week.

Who's doing the doorman duties while the doorman is sitting in the car? How can the doorman skip out for 90 min each morning?

If it is a no parking zone, so long as someone is in the car when they do their rounds... no ticket. It only takes a second to lean against a car so they pass.

I have no idea how the doormen do it, that is part of the question. Just relaying what a friend told me.

I don't love scuffed up bumpers, but I get the impression that they happen in most garages too.
