Discussion about
I was curious if anybody knew whether rental prices in Stuytown are negotiable? Has anybody succesfully negotiated a price cut there? (The prices still seem awfully high, considering their high level of empty units....)

they're offering one month free...but you should try to negotiate more since they haven't been renting very well.

Are there other such buildings which are offering incentives and/or rent reductions that you might know of?

this is why a huge chunk of the complex is completely empty.

Prices aren't warranted... but they refuse to lower them or they'll have thousands asking for reductions, and banks calling in the loans...

I visited a friend over in S-Town over the Holiday and was shocked by the "public-housing-like" feel of the entire development! I am sorry to say this, but it's a dump (and I don't say this about many places).

I can't imagine anyone paying over $3k/mo to live in one of their 1br units. There are so many nicer and more convenient bldgs in the City--in much nicer areas--in that price range. There is nothing wrong with public housing, but I won't want to pay $3k to live in it.

the rooms are very large and stuy town is allowing portable walls to be up which allows two or three people splitting the rent.

That sounds like frat boys splitting an apartment. Probably quite a loud building...

I sublet in stuyvesant town a few years ago...the rooms are large but it had a public housing feel to it. I don't undertstand how they're getting $3100 a month. I called last year about and they wouldn't budge on the price.

Well, there is good reason there are huge blocks of empty apartments there...

Not worth the $$$, and not willing to lower prices... yet.
