Discussion about
If there's anyone out there who is thinking of moving to Related's Westport building on west 56th and 10th, you should carefully check out the area. A friend just moved there and regrets it because there is a drug rehab clinic just around the corner, and the area gets really "rough" in the evening. Bunch of people making noises, getting into fights, and smoking pot. He has a tough time walking his dog because there's so much broken glass on the streets. Of course, no one told him about this before he moved in.
"Bunch of people making noises, getting into fights, and smoking pot."
Is rufus a 90 year old man?
'those youngins is havin too much fun'
That sounds like my weekend.
nyc10022, difference between having fun at a bar and having to live next to a drug rehab clinic that attracts shady people. I'm sorry that you are too dumb to understand the difference.
of course, all nyc locations have their compromises, but in my judgment the westport has for the last few years demanded a premium rental price that i don't think they area justifies. mid-2006, everything in the north half of hell's kitchen (say, 50th st and above) got repriced more like the upper west side, with the westport leading the way.
i think the issue is as much the large housing projects between 10th/11th and 54th/56th. they're not particularly bad, but i think they really challenge the ability to justify a premium.
i think the helena (57th/11th av) and west end towers (62nd/west end av) are very solid comps, both of which offer slightly further subway access but much better river views.
anotherguy, i agree. There are way too many housing projects in Manhattan, and they are really hurting development. This is why Manhattan is having a tough time gentrifying and getting cleaned up.
The view from the Westport his horrendous. You can see the big ugly housing project right behind the building.
It is pretty interesting that there is much more demand to live next to housing projects than.... living next to Chicago.
Are our projects more expensive than Chicago? I believe so.
People would rather live next to welfare recipients in New York than the people of Chicago. But, I guess they are welfare recipients, too.
Instead of getting views of Lake Michigan and the awesome skyscrapers on Michigan Avenue, most NYC apartments have views of housing projects and grimy buildings.
and yet they are still much more desirable and expensive and filled with rich folk... interesting...
You're an idiot if you think the Westport is filled with "rich folk."
Thanks for demonstrating how little you know about real estate, among many other topics.
Relative to chicago, absolutely...

Are you kidding? There's much more demand to live IN housing projects in NY than there is to live anywhere in Chicago. Huge waitlist for the former, massive exodus from the latter.
Rufus, He should have had a good broker :)
