this building is TERRIBLE. the mgmt is completely full of lies and could not care less about their tennents. construction never ends and when its not right above you or below you, its in the hallway, 3 floors above or in the lobby. do NOT live here if you want peace & comfort.

Looks as if it was quite high-end when built in 1965. Good room sizes, most apts have half-baths off the foyer, etc. Kitchens and baths small by today's suburban-tract-house standards, but some of the master baths have separate stall showers.

Aa a former tennant, DO NOT RENT HERE! Not only did the buidling not let us move out until 3 days after our lease ended, due to "too many people moving out", they then charged us for 3 days rent. To make matters worse, they charged us to "paint" the apartment (which is being renovated anyway). The owners are just bankrupt theves. DO NOT trust ANYTHING they say or tell you unless its in writing.

Building is a nightmare. Construction, noise and dust never end. Cant seem to finish a project. They are months behind schedule with no end in site.

The Doormen are appaulingly rude and unprofessional. I've never experienced anything like it - they literally won't give you your keys if you lock yourself out of your apartment (it's the policy!). Gabriel is a real treat - how someone that nasty chose to be a doorman is beyond me. Unfortunately, the fact that this Doorman attitude problem persists goes to how poorly this building is run - it's a shame because the location/finishings/views are great.

Lived at 200E62 until this summer ... construction was really bad ... and hear you on Gabriel the doorman, he would be considered rude even if he worked at the Post Office!

I agree with all above--except the doormen/concierge have improved and are generally pleasant and helpful. The construction is never-ending with significant work stoppages. Hallways, elevator, lobby, entrance, and driveway have been under construction/disrepair since April 2009. There has been no recent work on the incomplete lobby or hallways. The management company is completely unresponsive. The individual apartments are nice, so it is a shame that this is such a miserable, mismanaged building. Both of our neighbors moved out - on principle - after their rents were unreasonably increased during the construction. One family with children moved only two blocks away. Would not recommend. Terrible experience.

Again, the construction is endless and appears to be underfunded. Work is incomplete in the hallways, lobby, and driveway. Work on completion of the driveway only occurs from time to time. However, there does seem to be enough money to continually renovate the existing apartments -- supplying deafening noise and suffocating dust during the days. The management company is terrible. They do not answer phone calls yet continue to increase rent above market rates. If you are looking for a rental apartment, DO NOT be enticed by the nice kitchens or wood floors of the apartments, you will REGRET renting here and be subject to an exploitive management company in Northbrook Partners!

Having lived here for some time, I have to agree with endlessconstruction. The building personnel are very pleasant. The building, however, is a complete and unmitigated disaster and I wish I had known before I moved in. All of the residents hate the mgt company. There are constant elevator, AC, and plumbing issues perhaps due to things not being done right the first time. For 26 floors only one elevator has worked for most of this year which is unbelievable.
The management company is unfriendly and unapproachable and nothing seems to get done in a timely fashion with the construction or within the apts. People are constantly complaining and I wish I had known about these issues ahead of time as I suspect bldg turnover is high. The units are nice and doormen are also nice, but other than that I feel like I am living in a cheap low budget building which is very disappointing and I will not stay long-term.

Story to convey what a mess this building is ... the building has 3 elevators (2 main & 1 service) and just under 30 floors. Starting in the spring they shut down each elevator in turn for c.8 weeks to re-do the interiors. That is understandable. Now, however, w/ the interiors finally complete - they are shutting them each down in turn AGAIN (for c.8 weeks each) to re-do the cabling/mechanical. Obvious question to anyone who doesnt live in this buiding (and isnt accustomed to this level of incompetence) would be why didnt they re-do the cabling/mechanical at the same time the elevator was shut down to remodel the interior? So as such at least one elevator will be down for apx A FULL YEAR - maddening. And when the building workers use the service elevator for move in-outs/trash removal/the constant construction crews (another story)/etc you have only 1 elevator for almost 30 floors of residents ... the waits can be 15min for an elevator. Avoid this building like the plague - luxury it aint.

Update:

Hallway has been "Completed". The work is 3rd rate and coming apart--literally.

Construction continues on the floor with plastic tarps down Mon-Fri and work noise/dust daily.

Lobby is also coming apart with the metal inlays peeling off of the wood.

Driveway continues under construction--now almost TWO YEARS in the making. This is especially inconvenient in the snow and now that 59th street has become a major route to the 59th st. bridge.

"Does anyone have a recent update on this building?"
@britgill - How much more info could you possibly need after reading the steady stream of horrible comments about this building? They're as recent as 3 months!!
If you must rent, get into a Rudin building!

Interesting article in NY Post today about the doorman in this building breaking into a tenants apartment and stealing cash and jewels. Keep charging brokers fee and 13,000 a month for this "high end" rat den. this building and brokers are an insult to nyc residential real estate

Here's an update as of October, 2013. In fairness, the problems associated with all the renovations have been solved -- except for one of the two passenger elevators, which is broken so often that many residents are afraid to get in it when it does work. (This is a big problem in a building this size.) And there has been no intercom to the front desk or the garage for months. But the apartments are relatively spacious by NY standards, and the location is great if you don't mind the cars and trucks speeding down 62nd street at all hours to the bridge.

But this is NOT, NOT a white glove luxury building. Not even close. While most of the staff is very nice, there are not enough of them to man the door full-time, and some of them are untrained and unresponsive. (Offer to take a package from you when your arms are full? Hah!) Sometimes maintenance guys are posted at the door, wearing work pants and t-shirts, to say nothing of no white gloves. The gym is a joke. The lobby is embarrassingly bare. Management makes announcements about wanting to communicate with the tenants, but really what they do is patronize you while failing to correct problems. In short, the situation at this building is a testament to the craziness of the NY rental market: the management can ignore problems because good tenants are willing to pay outrageously high rents for relatively spacious, renovated apartments near midtown.

Are there any current residents’ comments on this building? I am thinking of buying a 2 BR. Many thanks in advance for any input.
