Discussion about
I have no statistical data to back this up, however it seems that the vast majority of threads on this site are about the UWS. Any ideas (other than the obligatory 'the UWS is the best!' comments) on why that might be? A quick check on the sales listings, and the UES has 1000 more units listed than the UWS so its not a volume thing. Is it just that the majority of you live on the UWS? Clearly, there is a reason many of the discussions lean towards your 'hood, I just dont really know why..... I of course am heavily biased towards the UES (in case you cant tell!), and I wish there was more discussion oriented towards my neck of the woods. Fellow East Siders, what do you say??

Maybe it's that most UWSers are more interesting, knowlegeable and educated people and don't spend our whole day in Starbucks complaining to our fake friends about a bunch of nonsense. Just a thought, but I could be wrong.

LOL. UWSiders are cheaper than UESiders right? That's why we're all on here ;)

Having lived in both hoods for a significant period of time, I can say that there are pros/cons to both. The UES has the convenience because it is more densely populated and can support more businesses. I basically travelled within a 2 block radius to get everything done. On the UWS, it's more like a 4 block radius, although it really depends on where you live. The UWS has 2 major subway lines which is a huge advantage. Also, the architecture in most of the UWS is much nicer than the UES east of Lex. Then there are the intangibles which a million people will probably pontificate on so I'll save myself the trouble. Overall, they're both great neighborhoods to live and raise a family, IMHO.

I hear several Park Avenue boards have issued Internet gag orders. Any shareholder caught posting non-public information on StreetEasy is subject to discipline - up to and including eviction - for conduct detrimental to the coop.

My point wasnt for this to turn into an East Side vs West Side insult fest, so I hope thats not where we are going with this.....

UESBandit: I lived in Lenox Hill for ten years. Great neighborhood. No insult intended. My point was just that East Siders (at least west of Lex) tend to be a pretty buttoned-up bunch, ergo less likely to share the secrets of their coop temples.

Seriously, though - if you want interesting East Side threads, start them. Your opening post comes off as a complaint about the volume of UWS commentary, whether you meant it that way or not.

I think it is due to relatively more active UWS posters such as W81st and HR. There don't seem to be as active UES posters who share insights about open houses and market trends.

Or maybe it is b/c UES'ers are simply rich and let the "little people" handle that money $tuff. ;)

i really wish a w15th or an east3rd would appear. although, now that long-term hope is stirring in my soul, maybe i'll quit going to open houses on the uppers and start focusing on downtown, where this heart is. we have a fairly vocal "gold coast" (sorry, couldn't resist) contingent, maybe i should change my screen name to downtownlooker and sally forth. i certainly have enough time to look, and who knows, one of these days i may actually once again become aboutready (when prices at 260PAS hit $800 psf).

The UWS has long been associated with writers, and what people do when they post frequently (other than petrifrizz and a few others) is write. I think that explains a lot of it.

Truman Capote on Jack Kerouac's work: "That's not writing, that's typing."

UES has been the opposite of hot for at least 5 years now. Downtown got hot, Brooklyn got hot, there were articles all over the place about how noone wants to live on the UES. Seriously. Jay McInerney wrote like a 10 pager for New York magazine. Even the UWS is hot relative to the UES

The young transplants don't want to live there, I've had so many people say they would never live there (many of whom end up on the UWS).

In short, its at the bottom of its cycle. Which is also why I figure its the best place to be at the bottom.

Luck of the draw, I'd say. Our forefathers and mothers ended up here.

secondandc, if i could live anywhere, it would be in the east village (although A would probably be my eastern border, due to convenience). very little product to purchase, however, and i'm not going to move from one rental to another. i suspect that there may be more ownership buildings that i am aware of. do share if you see anything tasty.

UESBandit, as another former Lenox Hiller, I hear you. I think it has something to do with demographics. I'm making a big generalization here, but I think most people who own or are looking to buy on the UES west of Lex are not frequent message board contributors. So the area we've got left (roughly 60th to 96th, Lex to EEA) is actually smaller than what many consider the UWS (60th to 110th, CPW to Riverside). I think the UWS is also slightly more desirable to the under-65 crowd. Start some UES threads - I'm sure others will contribute.

Its smaller because you cut the UES in half (and only go up to 96th) and you include pretty much anything anyone has ever calle the UWS (even parts I think most would not even call UWS".

There is some horrible crap within the UWS boundaries you defined.

If I buy it will likely be on the UES; it's just not part of my username.
