Built in 1983
When Donald Trump built Trump Tower on 721 Fifth Avenue in 1983, the landmark
skyscraper became one of the most recognizable and greatest skyscrapers in the world.
When it was completed, it was at that time, the tallest glass building in Manhattan, rising
over 600 feet into Manhattan’s skyline and sitting on less than a acre of land.
Visually striking with its glass curtain wall and sawtooth faceting, its bold, bronze
exterior is a dramatic, architectural masterpiece that has warranted rave reviews
from The New York Times architecture critics as being “a New York blockbuster of
superior design” and its interior, with a 100-foot, mirrored atrium, seven-foot waterfall,
and marbled floors as being “one of the most pleasant interior public spaces to be
completed in New York in some years.”
Located between East 56th and East 57th Streets, Trump Tower takes its space among
some of Manhattan’s most exclusive neighbors on Fifth Avenue, including The Plaza
Hotel, Bergdorf Goodman, Tiffany’s and Louis Vuitton.
There are 263 luxury condominiums on floors 30 through 68 and residents have a
private entrance on 56th Street. Upscale retail shops and fine dining occupy the lower
floors of Trump Tower.
World-renown interior designers have designed some of the interiors of these condos
and some of the highest per square foot units in Manhattan are located here. Asprey, a
former retail resident, is reported to have paid the highest square foot rental anywhere
in the world while they were housed in Trump Tower. The Gucci flagship store now
occupies this space.
Not surprisingly, Trump Tower’s residents include celebrities, athletes and some of the
world’s most affluent population. The unmistakeable, massive gold lettering, “Trump
Tower” is seen on the popular television series, Celebrity Apprentice, where Mr. Trump
hires and fires celebrities on a seasonal basis.
