An NYC apartment with a suburban-size kitchen is a rarity in itself. But a high-end kitchen, with bright windows and a center island and a dishwasher? In a great neighborhood? For under $2K per month? That’s our Rental of the Week, an Astoria 1-bedroom with all that — plus style to spare.
Best feature: Hello, home cooks! This Astoria 1-bedroom’s kitchen is the real deal. It boasts new stainless steel appliances, including a dishwasher. The countertops are granite, and the island has breakfast bar seating. Plus, it’s double-bright with two sunny windows and two stylish pendant lights. It opens to the living room area, giving the layout a nice flow.
But the kitchen isn’t the only great feature of our Rental of the Week. The whole space has been beautifully renovated, with new hardwood floors and a sleek bathroom. The large bedroom has two tall closets and another bright window, with a chic glass-paneled door to keep that light shining throughout. And finally, Astoria is hopping! The neighborhood has a lot to offer, including one of the city’s best restaurant scenes. It’s also an easy commute to Manhattan on the R, N, and W trains.
Why it’s a deal: Astoria is a relatively affordable neighborhood by NYC standards. Its median asking rent is $2,200, according to StreetEasy’s Data Dashboard. That puts our Rental of the Week at more than $200 per month below average for the area. In addition, this unit was renting for $2,495 pre-pandemic, making it even more of a deal.
Biggest drawback: Unfortunately, this Astoria 1-bedroom is a fifth-floor walkup. And it’s unclear whether the building has laundry facilities, so hauling your laundry up and down those stairs may well be necessary. However, you’d definitely be hard-pressed to find a better apartment for a better price in NYC!
