Address: 5 S. Oxford St. #E1

Price: $2,500

Size: 1-bedroom

Neighborhood: Fort Greene

Best feature: Our Rental of the Week sits in about as classic a Brooklyn brownstone as you can get. It’s on a park-fronting block full of sun-dappled stoops and ornate entrances. Pretty darn nice! It’s on the south edge of Fort Greene Park, near the southeastern corner, which puts it conveniently near the excellent weekly farmers’ market. The location also provides easy access to Brooklyn Academy of Music, Barclays Center, Atlantic Terminal, and much more. (Including a wide variety of subway options.)

Of course, this Fort Greene 1BR is classic inside, too. Prewar features include dark hardwoods, crisp window trim, and a decorative brick fireplace. But the bathroom and open kitchen are both modern and new, wrapped in bright white subway tile with gleaming finishes. The building provides laundry facilities, as well.

Why it’s a deal: The median asking rent in Fort Greene is a rather high $3,500, according to StreetEasy’s Data Dashboard. That puts our Rental of the Week at a full $1,000 per month below average for the neighborhood.

Biggest drawback: There are not many photos on this Fort Greene 1BR listing. And there’s no floor plan or square footage provided either. So it’s hard to tell where the rooms are in relation to one another, or how big they are. (Or what the closet situation is.) In addition, there’s very little counter and cabinet space in the kitchen. Though it does look like there’s room for a rolling island or long table, which would help considerably.
