New York City is a place of endless discoveries. To show it all off, we’re excited to announce #StreetEasyFinds. Share your NYC finds with us on Instagram: Photos of homes, views, neighborhoods, or anything you’d like, and we’ll share our favorites. Each month, we highlight the work of one of our favorite NYC photographers as they share their #StreetEasyFinds with us. Today, we’re pleased to introduce Deirdre Gartner, a native New Yorker who proudly says she’s lived in every neighborhood of Manhattan (nearly).

ACCOUNT BEGINNINGS:

I started in 2015 as a creative outlet. I wanted to highlight what was going on in NYC, and as my own personal love letter to NY. I named my account Girl In The Yellow Taxi NYC as a nod to the many miles I have logged as a passenger in the backseat of  NYC’s yellow taxis. They have transported me from one adventure to another. When I first started, I was posting about events around the city. Then I started focusing more on the actual day to day goings-on, the beauty and architecture of the city.

FAVORITE SPOTS TO PHOTOGRAPH IN NYC:

This is a hard one. I love the old world charm of the West Village, the gritty beauty of the East Village, the neighborhood appeal of the Upper East Side, and the ever-changing beauty of Central Park.

DEIRDRE LOVES NYC BECAUSE:

I love everything about New York.  The streets are my heartbeat, it’s like a gift that keeps giving. By way of museums, theaters, shops, restaurants, and street life I have journeyed a thousand years. I have tasted the finest cuisines from Katmandu to Timbuktu, sampled wines of acclaimed sommeliers and rooftop grape growers.  I have been entertained by the world-renowned and the kid on the corner. I’ve visited the finest perfumeries on the Upper East Side while sampling the spices of ancient civilizations on the Lower East Side. I love that you can visit a hole-in-the-wall bookstall selling everything from old comic books to first editions penned by Edith Wharton. Most of all, I love how resilient this city is. Even in the darkest times, New Yorkers come together to support and lift each other up.

DREAM CITY OUTSIDE OF NEW YORK:

I have worked in the fashion industry and was lucky enough to travel the world. But no matter where I was, when I would arrive back at JFK, drive through the Midtown Tunnel, hear the noise, the smells, the sights of New York, I was so happy to be home.
