A friend of mine is considering buying a unit in a high rise condo but has concerns because it is adjacent to a new entrance that the MTA intends to build at 63rd and 3rd for the F-line subway station. In connection with this new entrance, the MTA plans to build an above ground ancillary structure (MTA code for ventilation tower) behind her building. She's concerned that the ventilation tower will affect the building value -- it's unclear what type of noise, pollutants, general unsightliness this structure may generate. The architect renderings of the planned station and ventilation tower suggest the ventilation tower will be the size of a townhouse; however, the structure could end up being taller and having a larger footprint. The unit she is considering is on the north side of the building facing 64th, so she would't see the structure. Should she be concerned? http://www.mta.info/capconstr/sas/ [less]
