Gas line issue - is coop responsible or me?

In the process of renovating my apartment, we moved some gas lines around in the apartment, which is triggering a DOB inspection of the gas line. It turns out there is a leak in the gas line (somewhere between the basement and my apartment, and not in the new work). This was separately verified by the building. Yes, my renovation is bringing this issue to light, but who is ultimately responsible to fix or run a new gas line -- the coop or myself? The coop board has referred this to the coop's attorney and it seems as though they are trying to get me to pay for it.
