Submitted an App- Now they want to increase rent

Hi all, I submitted an application to a rental through a broker, and just received confirmation that I met all requirements (credit, salary etc) However, the broker has informed me that the management would now like to raise the rent. It's a marginal increase, but is this legal? or just bad business practice? Thank you,
