Renters beware! KMR Management, the company that leases overpriced apartments in 317 and 319 West 29th Street, is a slumlord. Since they assumed management of these buildings, they have permitted them to run into the ground. 317 has become infested with cockroaches through its largely transient population of tenants, many of whom are drug users and drug dealers. These criminals not only jeopardize the safety of the building with the amount of traffic they bring, they also stink up the building with their crack and marijuana usage. There is no ventilation in the stairwell and the stench of cigarettes and drugs remains for days. There is no supervision as the maintenance man is only part-time and lives in Pennsylvania. Female tenants are treated with utmost disrespect. Homeless people have camped in the entry way because there is no security system and no regard for safety by most of the subletting tenant population. The building has gone without heat for weeks at a time during the coldest winter months because the landlord does not respect City laws. The apartments are less than 180 sq. ft. each and appropriate for single occupancy only, but many of the apartments are filled with four or five people who are paying the tenants of record to live there. Although this set-up is illegal, the landlord does nothing about it. Basic repairs are not made either to the individual apartments or the common areas. Because this landlord is still able to get brokers to fool prospective tenants into thinking these apartments are well-maintained, unsuspecting renters are lured into year-long leases with high broker fees attached.
