Ventilator Requirement in Apartment?

Hi folks- Just a quick question for all of you beautiful renters. I moved into this new apartment but for some reason I hadn't noticed that it didn't have a ventilation fan installed in the kitchen. I was wondering if there is a legal requirement of some kind for all apartments to have to have ventilation in the kitchen since, well, it literally decreases the chances of you suffocating yourself from sizzling a steak in your home?? Seems to me that even from the benefit of the management company/building owner themselves it'll be a good idea to install it. And if there is no law regarding that, any suggestions on what I should do? Thanks to all of you!
