Can I be my own general contractor?

Recently bought a 600 sq ft apartment on UWS in as-is condition and need to do a gut (move a wall, replace floors, new kitchen Andre bathroom) renovation in the place. Looking to cut costs as much as possible, and willing to do a lot of the finishes DIY. With that said, would it be possible to be my own GC, and just hire the necessary subcontractors?
