very beaten up building, charge too much and services are terrible. broken fixtures and cracked walls make for an unpleasant experience. BUILDING OWNER VERY CHEAP! electric very expensive since central a/s/heat units are very old and not economical. figure 300 a month for that alone. BUT great location. better off at the Archives, where i live now. thanks

It's a Condo, so you can't talk about "the building owner" like it's a landlord. The Sponsor kept a large number of units, and a lot of the individual unit owners rent rather than occupy. So what you really have here is the poster child for banks using and owner occupancy lending requirement having validity.

I live in the building, and it isn't beat up, the services are fine, and we are a quiet, safe, friendly place. I am an owner. Most owners live here and do not rent out. But the sponsors have about 45% of the units still.

I also live in the building and would actually agree more with mikel521. Well, I wouldn't call it VERY beaten up and TERRIBLE services, but overall, it's really in need of an overall refresh. Then again, the location is fabulous, and that's what you pay for.

I also have to agree with mikel521. Printing House was once a premiere building in the West Village, but for far too long now she has been resting on her laurels. The building is very dated and definitely in need of a make-over. As mikel accurately stated, the building sponsor is VERY CHEAP. I believes he owns 51% of the units. As a result, he maintains control and the effects are felt by owners as well as renters (lobby, hallway, elevator updates/repairs, cleaning, etc.) Repairs are VERY slow in being addressed and then often performed sub par. The only reason the building remains relevant, is her location.

I've been living here 3+ years and do admit that it is a good location. However, as far southwest as you want to be in the West Village. In my 4 years here I have seen at least as many yellow DO NOT CROSS police tapes, for the likes of shooting, stabbing and mugging/beating. This is rather worrisome especially if you have a family like I do. Not all these actions were random acts, but still the neighborhood is susceptible to them. Building management is cheap. Not with small stuff or temporary fixes, but when it comes to real problems like sriously drafty windows, heating/cooling system, plumbing, etc. just forget about it. Staff is very complacent - partyly tenant/owner's fault since some as very chummy with them, creating a blurred and flawed professionalism (or none for that matter). All being said, only you can decide whether the one positive (location) can make up for the negatives. I, for one, am moving on with my family - good luck to those staying behind and just arriving.

great gym and all but its become a dorm for the kids with mom and dads money. Thats where the beat up comes from. Its a condo that opp like a rental.

I've lived here for a year. The building is very poorly run (from doormen to super to condo board). There are several apartments that get rented out to Europeans as short term vacation rentals, to which the building is complacent. Super is pretty useless and seems like his goal in life is to be cheap. Doormen are very unprofessional despite being good guys. Lobby and hallways are in terrible shape and in clear need of an update but seems like the sponsor won't bother to put any money into since he operates it like a rental building. Perhaps the number of apartments for sale in the building currently will spur some change...but I wouldn't hold my breath. It's a pitty b/c the location is solid and the ceilings are great. It has so much wasted potential driven by a poor mgmt and non-existent condo board.

Is the super still that Indian guy who comes to see what ails your apartment in his sandals?
Ya, he don't do much.

It is a shame. The high ceilings do somewhat disguise how poorly built the units are.

Yep, the super's the same Indian guy who walks around in his pajamas looking to be cheap so he can line his pajama pockets...
