Discussion about
Why did Streeteasy just take away the discussion about brokers (Sherri Benton)? It was beginning to develop into something useful as opposed to how it started. Did Sherri get in touch with you guys and threaten slander?? Why did you remove the discussion?

They did it last week when someone started "bad broker experiences" and named the broker. Streeteasy removed the posts with the broker's name....could be b/c they wouldn't want to get sued for slander. or it's just unprofessional - you never know if the person posting might have alterior motives.

Actually, in my other life my business was attacked on a website like this, different business, and the owners refused to remove the posting. When they do remove it, (as another website did for me), it's a courtesy to the target/victim/perp, depending on your point of view! :) I consulted with a lawyer who told me I had no recourse whatsoever under current law against the owners of the website, and he refused to even write a strong letter of objection. So, my best guess is they removed the thread as a courtesy to the broker's company, who pays to appear here. Any suit would be dead on arrival and a nuisance lawsuit only, according to lawyer.

I am not a broker fan, but I don't think the lady needs to be attacked on an on-line message board. Granted we all have the right to say what we want, etc., but from what I saw, the thread seemed to drift away from her into normal streeteasy blather. The whole time her name was displayed on the thread list. Maybe she is not a good broker, but I think the OP got his/her point across.

I would love to get an explanation from Streeteasy. Since this an open discussion board I think that an explanation from them would be in order. As far as the "offending" thread, yes, it was vitriolic but someone pointed out very wisely that the way to handle it would be to e-mail the agent with a copy going to the manager of the agency. So, Streeteasy.....?

Steeteasy: why not repost the non-objectionable postings on that thread with a new related title? It sounds like people were finding it useful.

It was pure vicious gossip, nothing useful

It wasn't gossip. The OP had a legitimate problem with a broker -- not returning calls, not showing an apartment that was supposedly still available. I agree that its all too easy to bash brokers anonymously but what's wrong with a serious question about how to handle a specific problem. Or to warn others to stay away from this broker. How is that different than warning people to stay away from certain buildings or neighborhoods?
