Discussion about
Why else would a broker fail to respond to the two emails I've sent, inquiring about one of her listings? For an apt that has been sitting vacant for at least 4 months, btw.

Or, uh, the broker got laid off?

You're noting an apartment vacant for 4 months as a "strong market"? What are you, SteveF?

The real question is, why are you dealing with a broker when there are so many no-fee apartments to be had?

just_fo_debate – that is painfully unprofessional. And brokers wonder where they earned this vile reputation?

Helenwaite – Is it a big firm like Corcoran or Elliman? It is probably easy enough to find out who the sales manager is for that specific broker’s branch, I would forward both of your emails to the manager and see if the person is on vacation or no longer with the firm. GL!

helenwaite - there's a good chance that the apartment either 1) doesn't exist, or 2) has been rented and the page you're viewing hasn't been updated. Those are my two guesses.

Waverly: yes, I was. Thanks for getting my back!
Shame there are no globally accepted emoticon doo-dads to denote sarcasm,

Just fo Debate: if a broker doesn't wish to respond to messages, why put contact information in their listings? (please note that my "tone of voice" to that question is plain ol' conversational, not snippy.)
Also, my emails to the broker were fairly detailed and specific; not at all the "can you tell me any more blah blah" type.

UWS Mom: I am rather sure the place is still open because I saw it listed in CL about a week ago.

Probably just go by the building and ask the doorman. We frequently cat-sat for friends that used to live in the building. Because we've had a chance to test drive so my inquiry is more serious than might otherwise be typical.

Meh - I will probably go by and ask the doorman. I'd have the "friends with Jim and Nancy" opener.

Thank you all for responding.
Group hug, y'all (sincere/comic combo).

Sorry, I didn't see it. Mainly because there HAVE been tons of people who have made the mistake you're kidding about.

Oh, I know - it is hard to tell. No offense taken, at all.
Alas, I'll often get the same reaction in the analog world as well.

It is never a good way to go through life assuming that the majority of people are dumb.

Maybe your emails are getting caught in their spam filter.
