Discussion about Montrose Flats at 204 Montrose Avenue in Williamsburg
It's Williamsburg...don't do it...I would rather buy a smaller apartment and live in Manhattan. You need to visit the area after 8:00 pm and see if you like it. Check to see if stores are open late (that's if you're used to Manhattan stores being open late).
My constant refrain is go over there, go over there, go over there - commute "home" from work to there, stay for supper, go see a movie, walk by there at 10 PM, go over for breakfast on Saturday morning, check out the stores & services & vibe "cause you're talking about living there. That said, I know NOTHING about the building. Sorry & good luck 8=)
All good advice, and well taken. Having circled the area at night, and upon closer map inspection, it appears that the building literally backs many housing projects. That said, I was curious about the potential for realestate (that abuts public housing) to incease in value. I am more focused on finding a home rather than on making a a quick buck, but...
I have have lived in Greenpoint and Williamsburg for many years and I feel that my search for suitable and affordable housing may be in vain. I live in the perfect rental... why should I have to move next to public housing if I want to stay here?
The area is pretty great. That complex is 1/2 block from the subway. There is a 24 hour health food store on the same block as well as a new bar and cafe one block away. New things are popping up all the time. No problems from the projects. They are low rise and pretty family oriented. I suppose the neighborhood isn't for everyone but I like it quite a bit.
This neighborhood is changing as we speak. It is becoming more gentrified and there are 5 or so new condos near completion with more in the beginning stages. I got an offer accepted on a new condo on manhattan ave near scholes st and I've been around and about and I think its fine. it is not a pretty neighborhood and the number of stores/bars/restaurants is a little lacking, but that will change as people start to move into these condos. You are also near the L train, only 15 minutes from Union Square.
I live in these apartments and like the hood. It is crawling with hipsters and ripe for more change. It has the same vibe that Graham Ave had a few years ago. Between this stop and the Morgan Ave stop are a bunch of artist and musician lofts that my band used to practice in. If that's not a sign of impending change I don't know what is. So I would say it's a good investment.
I haven't had any problem with living near the projects. Seriously. And I am a woman.
