It is easy - terribly easy - to shake a man's faith in himself. To take advantage of that, to break a man's spirit is devil's work.
This is for all those doom and gloomers...nouriel roubini!
Clever, Steve. But which way to these quotes cut? Maybe I have faith in myself that I'm right and the market will come down to where I want it.
"There's a sucker born every minute." - David Hannum
"Always do business as if the person you're doing business with is trying to screw you, because he probably is. And if he's not, you can be pleasantly surprised" Jimmy Dell (Spanish Prisoner)
I thought David Hannum would turn out to be a current-era shill for the RE industry ... but still very funny, West81st!!!
Steve - I don't know what business your in but I assume that it's not in the world of selling an actual product. The real economy is in shambles and recovery will be long and drawn out. I'm an optimist by nature and expect the future to be better than the past, but really, the approach that you suggest where fundamentals are ignored and we trade it all up again will in my opinion lead to a series of W’s and a lot of misery. The bubble in real-estate prices that occurred over the past few years has to cut off. Remember that core inflation over same period was non existent. You could make a case that the entire economic structure has been in decline over last 10+ years.
steveF started this thread just to goad me into this entry, whatever it means, so here it is:
"delaware, perception is and actual data is showing that recovery is underway. Sellers are gaing confidence that they will be getting higher prices in the near future so why sell at a lower price. In April we JUST started seeing buyers emerge. Now there are many buyers signing. Sellers can read they aren't idiots they are just driven by the old greed and fear. --steveF

I'm going to steal from someone else. from www.ritholtz.com, today. not a pithy phrase, but about as inspirational as it gets.
This is from “News from 1930” website
“There’s a large amount of money on sidelines waiting for investment opportunities; this should be felt in market when “cheerful sentiment is more firmly intrenched.” Economists point out that banks and insurance companies “never before had so much money lying idle.”
-August 28:, 1930

Scared little pussies, afraid of the world falling apart, frozen in fear, still living in your shit ass little studio rental waiting for someone to hand you a risk free opportunity that will make you millions...well keep waiting.

"The point is, Ladies and Gentleman, that greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right. Greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed, in all of its forms: greed for life, for money, for love, for knowledge has marked the upward surge of mankind. And greed - you mark my words - will not only save Teldar Paper, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA. Thank you very much."

I AM AMERICA (AND SO CAN YOU!) - Stephen Colbert

"Do not fear to be eccentric in opinion, for every opinion now accepted was once eccentric." Bertrand Russell
Alan Hart, here's some more of this quote... "Fear tastes like a rusty knife and do not let her into your house. Courage tastes of blood. Stand up straight. Admire the world. Relish the love of a gentle woman. Trust in the Lord." - It's from "The Wapshot Chronicle" 1974
BTW, do I have to disinfect my tomato cages for next year?
"Aware of the suffering brought about when we impose our views on others, we are committed not to force others, even our children, by any means whatsoever -such as authority, threat, money, propaganda, or indoctrination - to adopt our views. We will respect the right of others to be different and to choose what to believe and how to decide. We will, however, help others renounce fanaticism and narrowness through compassionate dialogue". Thich Nhat Hanh
OK, that makes more sense ... I'm not scared anymore.
I'm pretty new to this tomato thing, so I disinfect nothing, crop-rotate nothing, use no -cides, etc. But that doesn't make my routine the right one.
"What do you mean I can't sacrifice and eat other people's children? Are you a Republican?"
