Discussion about
There is something new going up on the corner of 46th street and First avenue (United Nations Plaza) north west corner. Anyone know what's going up or where to find out?
Macklowe sold it to the Zeckendorfs a couple of years ago. Going to be condos, I guess. A bunch of stuff if you google zeckendorf and un plaza, but don't know how current.
Owner's name is GZ/10 UNP LLC or something like that, same naming pattern they used at 15 CPW.
Thank you!!!
that's going to be a very busy little area if and when solow ever gets going.
mmmmmmm....more supply
the corner is going to be, in theory, a 40 story lux high rise brought to you by the folks at 15CPW.
AR, I agree, it will be a busy place but, my money is on solow not starting anything there for years to come. My personal dream would be cheap out door self parking. I was checking this out b/c of an interest at 333 east 46th, a unispired 2br sponser unit in need of renovation with a humongous terrace (850plussq/ft). The new building if it is ever erected will shadow the terrace and obscure the view.
Needless to say...turning over every stone. by the way love the 86th street rec. nice layout. I'm going to try to see it Wed.

falco, you're right solow won't start for awhile. he's just gloating over macklowe's problems. and even so, i think in the long run solow's development will be very good for the neighborhood.
it's one of my favorite neighborhoods, although perhaps not quite so close to the UN.
let me know how the apartment looks. good value, if reno is needed some discount and you've got yourself a great layout and the kitchen/baths you want.
nice bldg
Solow is also the developer on the former Con Edison site on First Avenue. Huge site, seems to have stopped dead in the water - finances, environmental, zoning?
long community board negotiation and then litigation from owners in Tudor City. and then the market didn't warrant it. solow has 5 building sites in midtown east, i believe.
Solow has got to be paying a ton in carrying costs on this site - can't imagine how long he can keep that up. Wouldn't it be nice if they could make a giant waterfront park on that site?
i think he got the land really cheap. i don't recall the exact details of the final approved plan, but it did include substantial public space and a new school.
Just googled - Citibank filed an $85MM cliam against him (12/08) for default on a loan. And even though he got $250MM in tax credits because the site is a "brown" site (and the DEC is contesting that with additional lawsuits), and he bought the land "cheap", the carrying still must be killing him. And can't see any large developer in this market coming to the rescue.
But I guess the park idea still won't fly.
solow is one of the most litiguous creatures on our small island. he loves to fight. his attorney must both love and hate him, his bills must be enormous but he's got to be the biggest pain in the ass going. and his feud with macklowe is something for the ages.
i wouldn't be dripping with pity for solow just yet. i've often joked with the husband that about six months after old sheldon breaks ground at the con ed sight might be a good time to start looking to buy. crazy like a fox.
Does anyone know what Solow's plans are for the other vacant lots he has along the east river in the 30s on 1st? Again, looked like Citi had claimed against him and they've been sitting vacant for a long time now.
there's all sorts of great stuff out there on solow. i doubt he wishes to build right now. steel is hugely expensive, along with other materials. he has at least one site on york as well.
