Covert A Bathroom To Full

Discussion about
Anyone know a good contractor to convert a half bathroom to a full? How much should this cost assuming no movement of anything electrical and the space where the shower will go has a washer and dryer so should require minimal to no movement of pipes. Thanks!

I don't know if my situation is comparable or not, but I bought a new construction condo. My unit is a duplex on the ground floor and cellar. The cellar level bathroom was not zoned for a full bathroom but had a closet on the floorplan where a tub would fit. The developer offered to put in a tub after closing for $2,000.

I've never done this renovation, but I'm thinking $10K maybe? It actually sounds like a medium-sized job: you've got to rip out the W/D, dispose of them (which means hiring a dumpster/bribing people), buy the shower fixtures, install the diffuser and whatever, and then retile and pay for the shower faucets/fixtures.

my contractor (who I highly recommend to clients and who did my own place) is Roger Bailey 917-239-7075.

Wow! I would be really interested to know how the new bath would drain - water likes to drain downhill..or is the developer putting in a pump, more likely?
BTW the reason there's no bath in your cellar is that it's illegal, by NYC code standards at least, to make a cellar space with less than 50% of its height below grade into a space which could feasibly be used to "live" in as an independent unit.

Drumbane, I did in fact take the developer up on the offer (you assumed correctly). I figured it would be worthwhile when my parents come up to visit from Florida, and a second full bathroom would be useful- even if it's only for a couple of weeks per year. The new bath drains just fine. I suspect that the developer expected that the buyer would likely convert the space (and the way it was set up in the floorplan screamed that this would occur...not sure I understand how this floorplan would be approved or whether the DOB has control over that) and had it somewhat prepped in advance. There was an article about these finished cellar recreation rooms in the NY Times real estate section a year or two ago. Apparently many of us choose to convert the half bath into a full bath. I understand the reason for the code standard in general, but I am using it for my own personal use and not having it used as a permanent living space. I love the recreation room- and it wows everyone when they come over for the first time.
